Jazz Fest 2025 is around the corner; let’s deep dive into the roots of this cultural fest. This Jazz Fest is also known as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and it was first celebrated in 1970 with a powerful vision of preserving the rich cultural heritage of New Orleans and Louisiana, especially the roots of Creole, Cajun, and African-American culture.
This Jazz Fest was originally started by George Wein for the first time. He was the keen music promoter and was hired by the New Orleans Hotel Motel Association with a strong motive of creating and developing a unique cultural celebration that became the top attraction for the visitors, and at the same time it helped create the city’s identity as a vibrant musical city.
Wein insisted for that event that it not just primarily focus on jazz; instead, he wanted to highlight the “heritage” too —the gospel, blues, R&B, zydeco, Afro-Caribbean, folk, and indigenous Louisiana sounds that made the area musically iconic.
